Notes from the demo run

AI-generated

MealMate answers 'what should I eat?' — after a quick dietary-prefs onboarding it drops you into a warm, mood-first dashboard ('How are you feeling this morning?') where you pick a mood (Comfort, Quick & Easy, Healthy…) and a cuisine, and it instantly surfaces tailored recipe cards with cook time and difficulty. Email+password (Supabase) signup with a verify-email step; Meal Planner, My Recipes and Shopping List round out the app.

Highlights
  • Mood-first discovery is delightful
Leading with 'How are you feeling?' + a huge cuisine grid (50+ cuisines from American to West African) is a genuinely fresh take vs the usual recipe-search box — picking 'Quick & Easy' + 'Italian' instantly produced an 'Italian Quick & Easy Ideas' row of real recipe cards (15-30 min, with images and ratings).
  • Personalised from the first session
Onboarding dietary preferences + a 'Picked for you' row mean the dashboard is never an empty state — there's always something to cook.
  • Coherent companion surfaces
Meal Planner, My Recipes and Shopping List are all wired up, so the 'decide → plan → shop' loop is complete, not just a suggestion toy.
Friction points
  • Verify-email gate before first value
Signup requires clicking a Supabase confirmation link before the dashboard unlocks — one inbox round-trip between 'I'm hungry' and 'here's dinner'. A 'browse a few ideas while we verify' interim could keep momentum.
  • Suggestions reshuffle every load
The 'Picked for you' row returns different recipes on each visit (great for variety, but a returning user may struggle to find a dish they liked yesterday — a 'recently shown / save' affordance would help).
