Notes from the demo run

AI-generated

CardBinder is a beta sports/TCG card cataloging tool with an AI photo-scan pipeline and a manual spreadsheet-style entry path. The app-shell is dense but functional: category/type pickers on the left, a scan/upload dropzone in the center, and a live review queue on the right. Dark, gold-accented theme reads clean for a solo-dev beta product.

Highlights
  • No-photo manual entry path
Add a card offers a spreadsheet-row fallback (Year/Product/Player/#) for collectors without photos yet, lowering the bar to try the product without burning a scan credit.
  • Free tier is generous
500 free AI scans, no credit card required to sign up. Cataloging, eBay sync and photo storage are free forever per the signup copy.
  • Built-in onboarding tour
A 3-5 step contextual tour walks first-time users through the scan flow and the binder view, distinct per screen.
Friction points
  • Binder view shows 0 cards right after adding one
Immediately after clicking Add to Binder, the Binder View and List View both render No cards match this filter and a count of 0, even though the card was just added. A leftover filter from the review screen appears to carry over. A first-time user would likely think the add silently failed.
  • Signup is IP-rate-limited network-wide
The backend throttles too many sign-ups from this network per IP. On a shared or proxied network (VPN, corporate NAT, cloud test runners) this can block legitimate new users, not just abuse. Worth a friendlier error or a longer window.
  • Post-signup load races the session cookie
Right after account creation, /sku/glossary and /inventory/load briefly 401 before succeeding on a retry, so the loading spinner can hang a few seconds waiting on this race.
